Nurture Benefit

Last week I attended and donated to the NurtureArt benefit at Cue Art Foundation. On the walls were a diverse array of 100 small pieces- sculptures, paintings, drawings, photographs, and mixed media. It was a challenge to focus my eye onto one piece individually since the work was all hung so close to eachother, and I have to admit that I was a bit taken back by how loud my piece was compared to the others. Most pieces seemed very safe and "pretty", and when I saw my more conceptual driven and obtuse photograph among these works, I was a bist disconcerted. I did notice that the works that were selling fastest were the more "object" driven pieces- pieces in shadow box frames, or small sculptures. I am still not sure if my work sold. I started to think that i should have donated one of my shadow box framed black and white photographs from my bed series- a bit more commercial, but then again, not very reflective of my current voice... always a difficult decision when it comes to selling my work..

This is the piece that I donated....

and this is an example of a piece that may be more "marketable"....
